The Mulayam factor

It can reasonably be argued that coalition governments comprising disparate political entities are usually prone to instability and crisis. Hence it's hardly surprising that the UPA government, in a minority since last September, when the Trinamool Congress pulled out support, is walking a tightrope on political and policy matters. But its vulnerability has further deepened following the exit of the UPA`s prominent southern ally, the DMK, from the coalition.
