Abolish Coal India's monopoly, break it up

The current clash between NTPC, India's main power producer, and Coal India (CIL), the coal monopoly, can be hugely transformative for the greater good. Provided the government purposefully acts to remove glaring policy glitches in coal supply. A wholly artificial coal shortage threatens to thoroughly dim India's growth prospects and jack up costs, despite our having some of the largest proven coal deposits globally.
