Since the results of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections were declared in December last year, the countdown for the 2014 general elections has begun. The assembly polls in 2013 — held earlier in March in three northeastern states, in Karnataka by May and in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram by November — are presented as a curtain raiser to the national elections.
