The UPA must not bring in another grandiose welfare scheme which the country can ill afford

The UPA government, scorched by successive scams, also has stars in its eyes. It's dreaming up grandiose welfare programmes which it believes will tilt the balance in its favour in coming general elections. Certainly, a food security law that will supposedly confer 5 kg of grain per person per month, at highly subsidised prices to almost two-thirds of the population, looks tempting to the political class.
