Congress wins clear majority in Karnataka after 14 years, BJP reduced to joint 2nd with Gowda

BANGALORE/NEW DELHI: A Congress win was expected in Karnataka but the comfortable margin still took many by surprise. Neither did the pundits expect BJP to lose almost 14% of its vote share and notch just 20% vote, a shade below the vote share of JD(S) of H D Deve Gowda. The Congress's decisive victory in Karnataka has not only ousted the first BJP government in south India, it has also dented the perception that it is the favourite for the 2014 Lok Sabha contest.
