RTI on political parties

The Central Information Commission's decision to bring national political parties within the ambit of the Right to Information Act has stirred a hornet's nest. While it is unclear how the issue will pan out in the long term, the fact is that the CIC's order seems to enhanced the sense of accountability that political parties have towards the people in a democracy. Parties have yet to firm up their response to this controversial ruling but it can be safely assumed that the order will not go entirely uncontested.
