Do not emulate the US on surveillance

As news on the whistle-blower who revealed the scope and extent of surveillance conducted on US citizens by the NSA makes global headlines, reports say India is set to create a multi-agency body, the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC), to monitor virtually all aspects of internet use. The context illustrates the serious concerns: if a comparatively free society with strong privacy laws like the US can have an agency apparently running amok, while managing to evade oversight restrictions, then how can we be sure about agencies like the NCCC not doing something similar in India?
