Media: Self-regulation is best

As a profession, journalism requires us to read the writing on the wall. It is part of our job. It enables us to speculate and predict which way the wind is blowing. At the risk of self-congratulation, let me say our record in this area is pretty decent. We usually get it right. Surprising then is our inability to read the aforesaid writing on a matter that will determine whether we are still in business or forced to shut shop.
