On eve of PM visit, militants kill 8 unarmed Army men in Srinagar
In the worst attack on the Army in the Kashmir Valley in five years, militants killed eight soldiers and wounded 16 as they ambushed a convoy carrying unarmed troops returning from vacation Monday, a day before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the state. This is the second attack in the Srinagar area in three days and was owned up by Hizbul Mujahideen. Sources said the police had some inputs that militants could strike in the city ahead of the VVIP visit.
