Bihar riots spark blame game, fears of return to past

In yet another indication of the rapidly changing political dynamic, Bihar was forced to declare curfew in Nawada district to contain an outbreak of communal violence. The deterioration in the law and order situation comes after the acrimonious split in the state’s ruling alliance between Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), giving rise to claims that they are inspired deliberately to polarize the electorate.
