Eelam supporters seek ban on ‘Madras Cafe’

It’s the season of bans in Tamil Nadu, with political parties now taking offence to the depiction of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the movie Madras Cafe, scheduled for release on Friday. In January, Muslim groups in Tamil Nadu protested the depiction of Muslims in Viswaroopam, delaying the film’s release till changes were made, and last week, the state government stopped the release of Thalaivaa after a few cinemas received bomb threats from people presumably opposed to the movie’s alleged political leanings.
