Govt rejects CBI’s key suggestions on autonomy

Differences between the Union government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) widened with the former filing a response in the apex court, rejecting all key suggestions by the investigative agency to grant it autonomy. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) rejected CBI’s suggestion that its director be given the rank of secretary, government of India to ensure direct reporting to the minister.
