Troop surge and detection of IEDs helped peace prevail in Bastar

Scaling up of anti-Maoist operations closer to the polling date and large-scale detection of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) saved the day in Bastar, which saw a turnout of more than 67% in one of the worst-affected areas of Chhattisgarh, an assessment by the home ministry has concluded.
