Mulayam: Son of the soil stuck in muck

Hartiputra or "son of the soil", as Mulayam Singh Yadav used to call himself when he had first contested Assembly election from Karhal in 1967 on Ram Manohar Lohia's Sanyukta Socialist Party ticket, was never in such a ticklish situation. His cousin and Rajya Sabha member Ram Gopal Yadav has gradually taken over the Samajwadi Party's affairs in Western UP.
