Our disproportionate emphasis on individuals as opposed to institutions

The saga of Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement from the game of cricket culminated in the conferment of the award of Bharat Ratna immediately after the Test match ended. There is no doubt that he belonged to the category of all-time greats who graced the game, globally. His personal qualities of endurance, dedication to the game, commitment to physical fitness and his dignified conduct on and off the field will and should serve as inspiration for millions of young Indians in the years ahead.
