Against the grain: Vasundhara Raje is unusually bold in saying freebies turn people into beggars

If sops win elections, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot need not wait till December 8 to start counting his chickens. That's when it will be confirmed whether Gehlot's Congress government has convinced voters to award it a second term. Topping the usual array of free saris for the poor and free laptops for students, his state has handed out free medicines not only to its people but also to its animals. Too bad cattle can't vote. But maybe their owners can and will.
