When sugar subsidy turns not-so-sweet

To augment the export of Indian raw/white sugar up to about four million tonnes in the next two years, the government is considering subsidy of Rs 2,000-3,500, or $32-55, per tonne for two years. This subvention is being justified because of availability of money in the Sugar Development Fund (SDF).
