OBC panel opposed Jat inclusion in quota list
The Union cabinet went ahead with its decision to include Jats in the central list of OBCs for nine states despite the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) rejecting the proposal. Just four days before the Cabinet' s nod on Sunday, NCBC said jats "are not a socially and educationally backward community". The UPA's decision is being seen in the context of the impending parliamentary polls as these nine states have over 8 crore jats and send 226 members to the Lok Sabha.
