BJP signals regime change

It was the night of long knives in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Sunday morning, a new leadership team had coalesced around Narendra Modi, the Gujarat chief minister who became the party’s prime ministerial candidate last September. In an unambiguous fashion, the party dismissed the presumptive challenge that had emerged from the old guard led by L.K. Advani—who was the party’s prime ministerial nominee in 2009.
