As polls in Tamil Nadu go, 2014 has an element of rare occurrence. This is probably the first time since 1977 that neither of the two large Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu, the DMK and the AIADMK, are in alliance with the two big national parties, the Congress and the BJP, for Lok Sabha polls.
