Jats hold key for BJP in sugar bowl

The Jats dominate both sugarcane agriculture and a major chunk of the vote base in western Uttar Pradesh's seven Lok Sabha seats, Meerut, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Kairana, Saharanpur, Bijnor and Nagina. A tour of some of the urban and rural areas in these constituencies revealed that a sizeable majority of the Jats are leaning toward the Bharatiya Janata Party.
