Nothing divisive about this election manifesto

Devi Lal had once famously remarked that an election manifesto is a useless piece of document that even its framers do not take seriously. This disdain has over the years rubbed off on the voters as well, who have treated manifestos as a bunch of empty promises that political parties make without the slightest intention of honouring them. Parties have added their bit to the cynicism by living up to the low expectations that the people have had.
