Desperate Congress nearly fielded Priyanka against Modi

The Congress leadership had almost made up its mind to field Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Varanasi to take on BJP's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi in what would have been the electoral battle of the century. Though Congress leaders refused to confirm or deny the plans to nominate her as the party nominee from the seat, sources said that the move was called off last Sunday after taking a considered view on the issue.
