Veggies & fruits beat grain output for the first time

India's horticulture production, for the first time, has surpassed its agricultural output. The country consumed more vegetables than food grains last year, in a major trend-shift towards nutrition security. According to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), the country produced 268.85million tonnes of horticulture commodities in 2012-13, breaching the agricultural output of 255.36million tonnes.
