How the BJP is gnawing into eastern UP

The BJP’s strategy behind fielding Narendra Modi from Varanasi seems to have paid some dividends in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Of the 17 seats in Poorvanchal region where polling is scheduled for the very last phase on May 12, the BJP had won in only three in the 2009 elections. Besides Varanasi itself, the party bagged Azamgarh and Gorakhpur.
