Why our urban planning is humbug
The basic urban planning instrument in Maharashtra is the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 (MR&TP Act). Other states have similar acts. They call for the preparation of an existing land use plan, followed by forecasts of what the situation will be 20 years from now: population growth, migration, job growth and what kind of jobs, incomes and income distribution, travel demand and by what mode of transport.
