Sad state of inclusion

We have a populist government. Its leading spirits believe, genuinely and seriously, that the task of the government is to give to the poor what they cannot afford. This could be easily achieved by introducing a subsidy or a negative income tax. But the government is not only the saviour of the poor. It is also their parent: it thinks that it knows what is good for the poor, and wants to give them only what is good for them, and not what they want.
