According to Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, the battle for the 2014 Lok Sabha election will be fought between “secular and communal forces”. But is – for instance – Mulayam Singh “secular”? His party professes to protect Muslims and yet Uttar Pradesh, in the 13 months the Samajwadi Party has been in office, has witnessed 15 serious communal riots. If the SP promoted real inclusiveness in the state, would distrust between Hindus and Muslims be at flashpoint?
