Petrol pump bonanza shows Congress desperation

Petrol and politics in India go together and petrol pump allotments have caused ripples in Indian politics in the past. It is no wonder, therefore, that the UPA government’s decision to flood election-going states with petrol pumps should raise heckles in political circles. In its two orders issued on April 6 and 25, the petroleum ministry had imposed tough viability norms that made opening of new petrol pumps practically impossible.
