Centre should stop playing favourites

If last month’s National Integration Council meeting saw the Centre under attack for undermining federalism through the proposed communal violence Bill, the scene was no different at last Saturday’s National Development Council meeting. The trigger for the suspicion about the Manmohan Singh government’s intentions was Mamata Banerjee’s demand for special treatment for West Bengal. There was nothing unusual about the demand itself.
