Half-baked policy initiatives create rather than solve problems. No wonder that the government has invited a political backlash against last week`s petrol price hike of Rs 1.82 per litre. Food inflation is at a scorching 12.21%, highlighting the UPA`s persisting failure to curb prices. Coming on the back of this, the fifth petrol price increase since January - simply to allow oil PSUs to make some extra cash - was always going to draw protests.
