Friendly Neighbours

The BJP has slammed Dr Manmohan Singh's words of praise for his Pakistani counterpart at the summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. This is reflex action for the Indian Opposition. But there is no gain saying the solid advance that the present government has made in improving relations with all of India's neighbours. Traditionally, India has played big brother, and the neighbours, sullen recalcitrants who mouth cooperation but, in practice, offer anything but. This has changed.
