Last Chance: Nepal can either move ahead or fall back

Three and a half years after it was first established, the tenure of Nepal’s Constituent Assembly, which was to be for two years, has been extended once again by another six months. While this is the fourth such extension that has been granted, there is reason to hope that the Assembly will soon complete its task of drafting a Constitution for republican Nepal. For one, Nepal’s Supreme Court has already ruled that if the Constituent Assembly fails to produce a draft Constitution before May 30, 2012, when the current extension gets over, it will be permanently dissolved and fresh elections held.
