Put an end to caste, religion-based quotas

In a mindless drift at the fag end of the winter session of Parliament the Congress-led UPA government has come out with two strange prescriptions for the nation’s future. It wants a minority quota in the constitution of the multi-member Lokpal and a quota within the OBC quota for Muslims in job reservations. Both the moves have the potential of upsetting the apple cart of governance envisaged in the constitutional scheme of things, which does not provide for quotas based on caste, creed or language in appointment of constitutional functionaries and is expressly against religion-based reservations. Worse, they pose an imminent and potentially catastrophic threat to the unity and integrity of the country.
