Rs 40,000-cr tax mop-up shortfall looms

Barely four months are left for the financial year to end and the government has reached only the halfway mark of its tax revenue collection target. fter admitting to possible slippages in its fiscal deficit and disinvestment targets, the finance ministry is now jittery about its tax collection target too. If that is also missed, it will be the third time in four years that the Budget target is missed.
