Fiscal deficit may swell to 5.2%

The finance ministry has prodded other departments to prune their spending by Rs 30,000 crore but the Centre is still staring at a fiscal deficit of over 5.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP), compared to the 4.6% target, as subsidies are going to be far higher than what finance minister Pranab Mukherjee had budgeted for in February.
