‘Return authority to States, local communities’: Trump signs order to dismantle US Dept of Education

A day after the White House confirmed his plans, President Donald Trump Friday signed an executive order to begin dismantling the US Department of Education. The order instructs the education secretary to “take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return authority over education to the States and local communities, to the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law.”
